RABELINK LOGISTICS EXPANDS LOCATION IN WEHL
The Dutch HUETTEMANN subsidiary Rabelink Logistics has been expanding its headquarters in Wehl since today, Tuesday, and is investing around seven million euros in the expansion of the forwarding terminal. Plans include cross dock, long goods handling and warehouses connected to the terminal. A further 2.5 million euros will be invested in the expansion of the company’s own fleet.
This is the HUETTEMANN subsidiary’s response to its rapidly growing freight business. The main driver, apart from the well-running new and existing customer business, is an unexpected event three years ago: Shortly after the opening of the location in the A18 Business Park at the beginning of 2015, one of Rabelink’s largest customers was taken over and abruptly expanded its transport volume by around 50 per cent. “That was a surprise for us, albeit a positive one,” says Managing Director Alwin Schweckhorst. “In order to be able to react, we had to make direct use of the buffers for space, fleet and employees that had been planned at the time, leaving little room for manoeuvre for the coming years.”
Faster growth than expected
The expansion now takes this into account: the property in Wehl is being enlarged by 17,500 to around 45,000 square metres and offers space for additional halls in addition to the crossdock and long goods handling. “Our on-site storage and handling capacities are almost tripled,” says Alwin Schweckhorst. “We are increasing the office space by 50 percent.” Since Rabelink Logistics is also investing in its own vehicle fleet at the same time, around 100 additional parking spaces for trucks and semi-trailers are also planned. The cross-dock and warehouses are scheduled for completion at the beginning of next year, followed by the office extensions by July 2019.
