RABELINK AWARDED WITH “LEAN AND GREEN STAR”
Rabelink Logistics, the Dutch subsidiary of HUETTEMANN GROUP, has been awarded the “Lean and Green Star” first class. The coveted award is part of a sustainability programme and aims to reduce CO2 emissions.
20 percent less carbon dioxide within five years – that is the requirement for the award, which is renowned in the Dutch logistics industry. Rabelink went much further and reduced CO2 emissions by almost 55 percent per loading metre. “Because this is such an extraordinary result, the figures had to be checked several times,” says Alwin Schweckhorst, Managing Director of the HUETTEMANN subsidiary. “We are very pleased that our efforts have been rewarded with the top ranking.”
Driver training, eco-combis, three-storey trailers
The “Lean & Green 1st Star” was presented by the sustainability network “Connekt” and the Dutch freight forwarders’ association TLN in Amersfoort on Thursday. In 2012, Rabelink Logistics presented the jury with a convincing package of measures: the drivers were trained to drive economically and the maximum speed of the trucks was reduced by 7 km/h by means of a limiter. In addition, Rabelink switched to eco-combis with significantly larger loading volumes and replaced double-decker semi-trailers with three-decker semi-trailers. In Switzerland, a large part of the transports were also shifted to rail. In the evaluation of the plans, Rabelink scored 45 out of a possible 50 points – just 30 would have been enough to get the green light for the project.
Sustainability in action
“The example of Rabelink Logistics shows that we take ecological action seriously and are aware of our responsibility towards the environment and future generations,” says Klaus Hüttemann, managing partner of the group of companies. “Not only at Rabelink, but in the entire GROUP, we focus on technologies and process optimisation for more sustainability and efficiency.”
