Brexit: Transports to and from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Hands-on experience: Trade in goods between UK and EU

Trade between Great Britain (GB) and Europe has become a challenge due to Brexit. Despite trade agreements between the UK and the EU, all shipments must be declared and cleared through customs upon import and export. This means that a complete customs clearance with all paperwork is required for all shipments – whether importing to or exporting from the UK. For many companies, this is a costly, unfamiliar challenge that must be solved. Because whether in production, trade, industry or for the end consumer – the import and export of goods from and to the UK is essential. As an experienced freight forwarder for UK and EU shipments, we have the know-how to bring your freight safely through customs to its destination. Our special solution for UK-Europe transports ensures maximum efficiency in shipping and further distribution.

UK freight shipping: UK transports and customs

Whether it is a full-truck-load (FCL) of export goods or just a single product, exporting goods from the UK is complicated and involves a lot of paperwork and documentation. The same applies to importing customs goods into the UK. With more than 40 years of expertise in this market and daily lines between the EU and the British Isles, we can confidently call ourselves an excellent UK freight forwarder. In addition to a solid local partner network, our customers also benefit from our know-how in the field of customs clearance. Especially since Brexit in January 2021, this expertise is more in demand than ever: tens of thousands more people – whether from the UK or the EU – are now dealing with customs clearance, but have little to no experience in this area. The consequences are incomplete, incorrect trade documents or lost productivity in shipments due to customs clearance processes.

M + F Spedition: More than 40 years of transports between Great Britain and Europe

Whether general cargo, partial or full loads or special transports by truck: every transport from the UK to the EU and vice versa – despite the agreement – passes through customs and must have the export documents. The quantity of goods exported is not relevant. This means: Even to export single goods orders – mostly online orders via e-commerce offers – from the UK, the goods must go through the complete import mechanism. To ensure that your transport goes smoothly across the border, despite Brexit, exporter at the UK-EU border requires the usual customs export documents for non-European goods traffic. These export documents used in international trade include:

  • Shipping documents with information about the number of packages, type, weight and origin of the goods
  • Commercial Invoice
  • Commodity codes
  • Sales value per commodity code
  • Shipping terms / Incoterms
  • VAT number, EORI number and complete contact details of importer and consignee
  • Export accompanying document (ABD/EX1)
  • Information on the method of payment of import VAT and customs duties by the importer
  • Signed customs power of attorney by the importer

From EORI to commodity code: all you need for trade

From the export declaration to the transport document to the procedure with the customs agent: Our experts take care of the entire customs process. Especially important for a smooth supply chain: the EU – EORI number (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) for trading goods from the UK to the EU or a GB EORI number for deliveries to the UK. As a company, you can apply for these yourself in advance. As an experienced freight forwarder for UK transports, we are of course happy to assist you with this.
