FULL-SERVICE LOGISTIC FOR IDEE+SPIEL
Logistics services for the toy industry – that’s what M+F Spedition from Nordhorn stands for. Now the subsidiary of the HUETTEMANN Group has gained a new customer: idee+spiel is one of the largest associations of independent toy, model hobby and video games retailers in Europe.
Recommended, tested, started: Many suppliers of the idee+spiel purchasing cooperation already work successfully with M+F Spedition in the area of logistics. They recommended their logistics partner to others. After idee+spiel had convinced itself of the good quality of the services in a four-month test phase, the permanent cooperation started on 2 January this year.
From the port to the shop
As for many of its customers in the toy industry, M+F Spedition organises almost the entire supply chain for idee+spiel. At the ports of Rotterdam and Hamburg, the logistics company receives import containers with goods for idee+spiel. They are transported by truck to the Toy Distribution Centre of M+F Spedition in Nordhorn. Here, the employees pack the goods, consolidate them and control the distribution. “We store some products temporarily, for others we provide value-added services such as labelling and repackaging,” explains branch manager Çetin Çelik. “We distribute the ready-to-ship consignments via parcel service providers to more than 1,000 specialist shops in Germany, Austria, Italy and Belgium.”
All articles in one system
Distribution from Nordhorn takes place daily, which amounts to about 100,000 shipments per year. The product spectrum covers the entire range from toys to model-making accessories to sports articles. The biggest logistical challenge is the Christmas business – by a fixed deadline, the products advertised in brochures have to be on the shop shelves.
In order to provide the customer with an optimal overview of all goods movements from the various suppliers, M+F Spedition has programmed a new IT tool for idee+spiel. It combines the delivery notes of several suppliers into one common delivery note and invoice. The material equivalent is bundled shipments. “In this way, we reduce the number of deliveries to the customer and the associated handling effort,” explains Çetin Çelik. “idee+spiel can check the delivery status at any time using its order number on our shipment tracking platform.”
