HUETTEMANN TAKES OVER COMPLETE LOGISTICS FOR EDDING
Since August this year, HUETTEMANN GROUP has been responsible for the entire logistics for the writing utensil specialist edding. The complex outsourcing project includes the warehousing and distribution of all edding products and is now concentrated on two warehouse locations in the Hanover region.
HUETTEMANN took over one of the two warehouses from edding back in 2011. Since then, the logistics service provider has been storing and picking several thousand edding articles on 2,600 square metres at the Wunstorf warehouse. The site has a small parts picking system with conveyor technology. All national retailers and chain stores are supplied from here.
From Ahrensburg to Isernhagen
Up to now, edding has operated a second warehouse under its own management at its headquarters in Ahrensburg near Hamburg. From here, edding delivered pallets for bulk buyers, ensured that the logistics centre in Wunstorf was replenished and managed international shipping. In order to save distances and bundle synergies, the Ahrensburg warehouse is now being replaced by the HUETTEMANN site in Isernhagen. It is only around 30 kilometres away from Wunstorf – so goods can be exchanged quickly and flexibly between the warehouse locations.
The edding logistics staff at the Ahrensburg site were offered career prospects with HUETTEMANN as part of a partial transfer of operations.
In addition to the physical proximity, the HUETTEMANN warehouse offers the advantage that warehousing can be flexibly adapted to requirements. “On the 8,000 square metres of logistics space in Isernhagen, we can scale the services freely,” explains Andreas Lorenz, Managing Director at HUETTEMANN.
Clever logistics concept
At the Isernhagen location, the complete incoming goods department is bundled. HUETTEMANN supplies national and international bulk buyers from here and organises the replenishment of the logistics centre in Wunstorf.
The warehouse in Wunstorf remains focused on picking and packing smaller orders. What is new is that international shipments are now added to the national shipments. The warehouse management system integrates both locations transparently and completely in one system. A daily shuttle ensures the exchange of goods between the two logistics warehouses.
Flexible teams
The staff concept is also flexible: “Due to the proximity of the locations, our staff can easily switch from one warehouse to the other – depending on the current demand,” says Andreas Lorenz. “In addition, the team is very well coordinated.”
HUETTEMANN completed the move from Ahrensburg to Isernhagen on schedule at the end of July. “It was not a small move – after all, it involved several thousand pallets that we transported by truck from Ahrensburg to Isernhagen,” says Andreas Lorenz. “But thanks to the very good cooperation between the HUETTEMANN and edding project teams, the move went smoothly and on schedule.”
